Exam prep

The location of the clip is at a lords manor which is decorated with very expensive decor which shows that it is upper class, also when the maid walks in she says "my lord" whereas as the serving quarters was very dull and not lighted very well which shows that's where the working class are. Costume also separates the upper and working class as the maids wear black and white and the upper class wear suits and flowing dresses. The bathroom scene created the conflict as the maid left half of the soap on the floor so when the lady got out she fell this could be because she is jealous of the upper class and wants to get her own back on them.

The first part of the clip you hear birds tweeting which suggests that being upper class is normal, the music then gets tense as the maid is listening in on the 2 woman which is building up to some conflict happening. Also when the maid walks in talking her grammar gets corrected by the man sitting down.

The way that this clip is edited shows that the working class can not even share the screen with the upper class as when the lady is in the bath it cuts between the two of them. Just before the fight scene the pace starts to speed up as it shows masculinity and the physical role of a working class.

The establishing shot that opens the scene shows how big the manor is which shows that the upper class dominate and have more power than overs. The over the shoulder shot staring into the mirror suggests that the maid is struggling with her identity. At the end of the clip in the serving quarters the northern male has his back against the door leading upstairs which can show that he doesn't care about authority and the upper class.
